How to use your Kelhale® inhaler

Use this step-by-step guide to help you remember how to use your Kelhale inhaler

Please read the section in your package leaflet entitled “testing your inhaler”.

A new inhaler first shows “200” in the dose indicator window, denoting the number of puffs in the inhaler.

  • Step 1

    Only use your inhaler when standing or sitting up.

  • Step 2

    Remove the mouthpiece cover. Check that the mouthpiece is clean and free of loose objects.

  • Step 3

    Place your thumb on the base of the inhaler, below the mouthpiece, and hold with your forefinger on top on the canister. Breathe out as far as is comfortable.

  • Step 4

    Hold the mouthpiece between your teeth, with as little pressure as possible. Use your lips to form a tight seal.

  • Step 5

    Breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth. Just after you begin to breathe in, press down firmly on the top of the canister. This will release a dose of medicine. Continue to breathe in steadily and deeply.

  • Step 6

    Hold your breath for a few seconds after removing the inhaler from your mouth.

    If your doctor has told you to take more than one puff per dose, wait 60 seconds, and then repeat steps 3-6.

  • Step 8

    Replace the mouthpiece cover.

  • Step 9

    Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to avoid developing a sore mouth or thrush.
